Per 29 CFR 1926.32(f), a Competent Person is “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has the authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.”
This means the individual must:
✔ Be trained and/or experienced in trenching and excavation safety
✔ Understand applicable standards and workplace hazards
✔ Have the authority to take corrective action
Why Take This Course?
OSHA mandates that a Trench Competent Person, not just an Entry Supervisor, must sign off daily on trench design, inspection, and safety. This training equips participants with the expertise and authority to fulfill this requirement, ensuring a safer excavation environment.
